Didn’t do much that was interesting today. We finally walked up the trail behind the house, though it took a little work to find the way up there. It doesn’t go much of anywhere, just sort of around some farm areas (we live in the sticks!) and over toward the Moebelhof. Then we went along the main road through town and back through our neighborhood to the house.
Along the way, we were greeted rather friendlily (I know, but it seems to fit) by an older German woman. She seemed undaunted by our stammers of “Ich verstehe kein Deutsch,” (actually it usually goes like this: Guitarman mumbles that while I stand there speechless, desperately hoping to suddenly be struck with a complete understanding of the German language… c’mon, the Pimsleur CDs have to help sometime!) and went on to chat with us for a moment (still in German), asking where we live and how long we’ve been here (so it’s not really kein --no-- Deutsch but pretty darn close). I have to say, I’ve been pleasantly surprised at how friendly some people have been to us. I think it’s because of Wee Laddie. Germans seem to love children, too, and they just cannot resist our little charmer, who is always calling out, “Hi!” (we’re working on “Hallo”) to just about anyone he sees.
