And Understanding Dawns

Wee Laddie & Grandma were talking about Germany today. Grandma was saying, 'Daddy drives? Yes, but he flew on a plane to Germany... New car, that's what you heard Mommy talking about. Your daddy got a new car. What's coming up in the next few days is that you and Mommy will fly on a plane and see Daddy.'

Wee Laddie: 'And Grandma?' So she explains that we will be with Daddy again, but that she’s not coming.

Seems he might kinda get it. Uh-oh. I might be in deep doo-doo.

Crap!

Wee Laddie and Grandma were playing around with a deck of cards. Wee Laddie puts down an eight and says, 'Eight.'

Grandma says, 'Crap! That IS an 8!'

Wee Laddie looks over at me and proudly exclaims, 'Crap!'

Don’t Jack the Gumball, Dude

Today we went with my mom, my sister and her 3 kids to a Mexican restaurant we’ve been going to since the mid-‘80s. Apparently one of the owners may be a bit of a daytime drinker. He gave quarters to all the kids for the gumball machine. For whatever reason, he saw the gumball that one of my nephews got. 'Wow, that looks exactly like Saturn, dude!' he exclaims. My nephew shrugs.

The restaurant owner goes on for several minutes about how much the gumball resembles Saturn and he’s never seen one like that and that my nephew should really contact the gum company to see if he’s won a prize. 'Don't jack the gumball, dude,' he says very seriously.

At some point my sister looks at the gumball and quietly says to us, 'You know, it really DOES look like Saturn.'

In all of the gumball hysteria, I nearly forgot about my hair appointment. I was totally late so I called to see if my stylist was still there. (With all the snow coming down, I wasn’t sure if they’d still be open.) She was, so off I went. On the way there I very nearly rearended another car. Luckily they turned the corner just in time or I don’t think I’d have been able to avoid them!

My stylist was still there, having to wait for her boss’ daughter to come in for a cut. Poor thing. I hope she makes it home safely. We’re supposed to get another 6-12 more inches of snow!

Snow, Snow and More Snow

This evening, my mom, Wee Laddie and I went to get a haircut for Wee Laddie and some dinner. I got confused on the way over (I’ve just got so much on my plate right now) and got them in the wrong order, so Wee Laddie just about melted down over the haircut idea. (Since I knew he was hungry, I'd originally planned for us to have dinner first. Duh.) So we went to eat at OK Coyote, which is a place we’ve gone to many times with Grandma...it’s very near our house.

Then we tried the haircut again. Now, Guitarman took Wee Laddie for a haircut not too long ago and he did fine.

See? No Daddy in sight. I take him, and I’ve got to sit him on my lap while his hair is cut. (What’s up with that?) Finally, about halfway through the haircut, a song comes on that he likes the beat to and he starts to bob up & down to it. The stylist (everyone in the shop, in fact) was laughing.

Unfortunately, I couldn't take a video of it because he was still in my lap.

Guitarman Goes Abroad

Guitarman arrived in Germany on Monday and has been very busy! He's already looked at one apartment (more to come later this week), checked in at work and been pulled over for speeding! No ticket, happily, but learned about some extra paperwork you need to drive in Germany. Interesting. Nothing like being pulled over your first full day in a foreign country, I'm sure.

As for his arrival, the person driving him drove about 100mph in the middle lane...apparently in a big hurry to drop him in the middle of nowhere. Tiny hotel, tiny town. No details yet about how far it is from work, but he's mentioned that the church bells are waking him at night.

Meanwhile, Wee Laddie and I are still in Colorado...in the biggest blizzard since '03.

Guitarman will remember that one, as he had to go to work despite warnings to not go in unless you're 'essential.'

Lucky him. Grandma and I shoveled 4 times today and there was another 4 inches or so last time I checked (about 2 hours ago). The end of the snow is expected around noon tomorrow and we may have 2 feet by then! This is definitely making it more of a challenge to complete all of the things I need to get done before Wee Laddie and I leave. (I look forward to the days when I can actually relax enough to get a good night's sleep again.)

I love this photo for its surreal look: Photo Sharing and Video Hosting at Photobucket

I went out to get something from my car this evening... once I'd opened two doors on one side it looked like my car had made a snow angel. I wish I could have taken an aerial photo of it.

Last night was my last Girls' Night Out with my fellow playgroup moms. Bittersweet, for sure. They have been such a great resource for (most of) these last 2 years. Our weekly get-togethers have been such fun for both me and Wee Laddie (who calls it 'baygoop,' and knows all of the kids' and moms' names). Our friends will be sorely missed. I sure hope they know that!
